A great painting begins with a good reference photo. This guide will help you choose photographs that capture your pet's personality and give me what I need to create your portrait.
The most important element of any reference photo is soft, natural light falling on the subject.
A portrait depends heavily on the eyes. If they're distant or blurry, it becomes much harder to capture your pet's character.
Relaxed pets make the best subjects. Let them settle into their signature pose before taking the shot. A plain background helps your pet stand out, but don't worry too much—I will isolate them on pure white watercolor paper regardless.
